Mission
Our mission is to provide a welcoming atmosphere for electronic dance music enthusiasts by establishing social events to share music, while simultaneously promoting local and Penn State student DJ's and music producers.
History
The Electronic Dance Music Club is a Penn State organization dedicated to creating an enjoyable atmosphere for those who love EDM in the State College Area. Kaveh Emami started this club in the Fall of 2011 with Nicole Armstrong. Although electronic dance music was popular here at Penn State, students were not unified in any way by the music genre. Kaveh's goal with the club was to create a club that unified the community, support local DJ's, and support the local dance music scene.
Many students and faculty didn't take the founding members seriously in their venture, and though no one told them they shouldn't create the club, the "side effects" and other social elements that are involved with electronic dance music did not project the club in a positive light. The founding members of the club went on anyway to try and create a club, needing at least 10 people to create it. However, when a Facebook page was created to gauge interest in the club, they received over 200 interested students in less than two weeks.
Today, the Electronic Dance Music Club creates spectacular events for students here on campus and also supports local DJs at businesses like Levels and the Lion's den. In the future, the club hopes to hold even more events for students, get involved more in THON, create an EDMC house on campus for students to live in, and invite more members into this friendly family of music enthusiasts.
